Student Travel Scholarships

This award is for any current undergraduate or graduate student in the speech and hearing sciences. Each award is $500, which the student can use toward reimbursement of monies spent on any travel expenses related to the NBASLH Annual Convention, including transportation and lodging. Each award recipient will be required to complete and sign a commitment form to register for the NBASLH Convention and to volunteer for the annual awards gala and to moderate at least two sessions during the convention. This award is in the form of a check once the student has completed their service at the convention. The number of travel awards available varies from year to year. Self-nominations for awards are permitted.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Verification of a GPA‐3.0 (this can be either transcript or verification by a faculty advisor)
  • 500‐word essay that describes the benefits and objectives of attending the Convention
  • Letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor
  • Complete and sign a commitment form to register for the NBASLH Convention and to volunteer during the awards gala and moderate at least two sessions during the convention

High School Student Travel Scholarships

The NBASLH High School Travel Award supports an eligible high school student and their parent or legal guardian to attend an NBASLH Annual Convention. 

The award recipient will also be connected with a student and professional mentor and an undergraduate program nearest to them. 

Award includes $800 as support towards travel and food expenses to, during, and from the convention location city; one (1) complimentary standard student registration, (1) guest registration, and a 2-night stay at the convention host hotel.  

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Junior or Senior enrolled full-time at a high school in the United States.
  • Identifies as Black or African American.
  • Strong interest in a future career as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to the convention location of the year in which they are applying.
  • Recipient and parent or legal guardian must personally attend the NBASLH Annual Convention to claim the travel stipend. 
  • 500-word personal statement on (1) their interest in the profession and (2) what they hope to gain from attending the NBASLH Annual Convention.
  • Letter of support from a teacher, counselor, or academic advisor.
