The National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing is committed to diversifying the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology by financially investing in students, especially Black students, in the disciplines of audiology and speech-language pathology. NBASLH fulfills this commitment by providing scholarships and travel awards sustainable in perpetuity through generous financial contributions to the NBASLH Community of Black Excellence in Scholarship.

The association has a goal to establish and endow scholarships and travel awards for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Your financial contribution helps NBASLH reach these goals.

CONTRIBUTION LEVELS

  • Legends Circle: $1000.00+
  • Echo Visionaries: $500.00 – $999.00
  • Community Cultivators: $350.00 – $499.00
  • Advocates: $100.00 – $349.00

Annually, donors will be acknowledged at the NBASLH Convention following the fiscal year in which the donation was provided.

NBASLH is a 501c3 thus making all contributions to the NBASLH CBES tax-deductible.

 


NBASLH SCHOLARSHIP PLAN

NBASLH SCHOLARSHIP FOR BLACK MEN

 

There is a critical deficit in the representation of Black males in the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology. The NBASLH Scholarship for Black Men provides financial support as well as mentorship and leadership development and is awarded to a Black male undergraduate or graduate student majoring in the disciplines of hearing and speech sciences, communication disorders, audiology, or speech-language pathology.

Endowment Goal: $20,000

Award Components

  • $1000.00
  • Mentorship with a Black male NBASLH professional member (assigned by NBASLH)
  • Mentorship from an NBASLH Board of Directors Student Representative
  • One (1) year NBASLH Student Membership
  • One (1) year National NSSLHA Student Membership
  • Reserved Seat an upcoming ASHA Minority Student Leadership Program Class

Eligibility Criteria:

Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full-time at a university in the United States majoring in hearing and speech sciences, communication disorders, audiology, or speech-language pathology.

  • Identifies as Black or African American male.
  • Must have a minimum of one (1) full academic year remaining within the current degree program at the time of the award.
  • 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale requirement

Application Process:

  • 500-word personal statement on (1) professional/academic/career plan and (2) how they plan to contribute to profession and counter the deficit of Black males in the profession.

  • Verification of good standing from counselor, or academic advisor
  • Copy of unofficial transcript


NBASLH AUDIOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

Black audiologists represent a very small percentage of professionals in the field. The NBASLH Audiology Scholarship provides financial support and mentorship to a Black individual enrolled full-time in an Audiology Doctoral program with the plan of earning a Doctorate of Audiology degree.  

Endowment Goal: $20,000

Award Components

  • $1000.00
  • Mentorship with a Black Audiology NBASLH professional member (assigned by NBASLH)
  • Mentorship from an NBASLH Board of Directors Audiology Student Representative
  • One (1) year NBASLH Student Membership Required
  • National NSSLHA Student Membership

  • Identifies as Black or African American.

Individuals can make one-time, recurring donations or donations in honor or memory of loved ones. End of year tax free contributions and charitable donations may help you minimize taxes while also supporting Black students in the disciplines of audiology and speech-language pathology. Donors will be recognized at NBASLH's Annual Convention and convention brochure, and on the NBASLH Community of Black Excellence webpage. Donors will receive advanced notice of future NBASLH funded scholarships.
