A Commitment to Cultural Humility: Intersectional Health Justice through Gender Affirming Care 
a virtual course hosted by the NBASLH Cultural Humility/Responsiveness Task Force

A panel of experts will explore concepts surrounding intersectionality and gender affirming
care in relation to professionals and persons with communication disorders and differences
through the lens of cultural humility and health justice.

Speakers:

  • Betty Yu, Professor, Dept of Speech Language & Hearing Sciences, San Francisco State University.
  • RaMonda Horton, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Professor, Department of Speech-Language Pathology, DePaul University.
  • Greg Robinson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, Associate Professor, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, CSD Doctoral Program.
    • Financial disclosure: Dr. Robinson receives a salary from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Program agenda:

8:00pm-8:15pm: Welcome, Topic Overview and Speaker introductions.

8:15pm-9:00pm: Moderated panel discussion regarding intersectionality, cultural humility, and gender-affirming care.

9:00-9:30pm: Live Q&A with attendees

Learning objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to explain cultural humility as a process of lifelong learning, constant self-reflection of biases, and institutional accountability in clinical practice. 
  2. Participants will identify and define key terms related to intersectionality and gender-affirming care.
  3. Participants will identify and describe elements of health justice and how this impacts our respective practices in the field of communication sciences and disorders.
