General Information - THE NBASLH 2020 CONVENTION IS CANCELLED: Read More

Greetings from your 2020 NBASLH Convention Co-Chairs!

We are excited to invite you to join us as we head west to the great city of Houston, Texas. Our  convention  was to be held at the Omni Houston Hotel April 15-18, 2020. You may know of Houston as the “Space City,” but it is also one of the largest and most diverse cities in the country. By tapping into the strength of its multicultural population, the city has overcome many challenges and is now considered a worldwide destination. Much like Houston’s story, NBASLH remains committed to utilizing our diversity as our strength.

Our 2020 NBASLH Convention theme is 2020 Vision: “Expanding the Views of Cultural Diversity, Ethics, and Professionalism”. We believe that this theme will: (1) Expand the Views of our attendees critical thinking in communication disorders and audiology; (2) focus on addressing the issues of Cultural Diversity as a student, clinician, professor, and researcher; and lastly (3) set the standard in Professionalism while educating our attendees on the importance of Ethical decision making.

In response to your feedback, and in maintaining consistency with our theme, the following substantive changes will be reflected throughout the convention:

NBASLH Cares — We are delighted to continue our book drive for the NBASLH Cares project. We are working to increase our engagement by identifying predominantly African American high schools to promote our profession through our recruitment initiative.

Topic Areas — We are excited to announce topic areas for easy navigation, submitting proposals, and attendee program planning. The topic areas are Audiology & Aural-Rehabilitation; Clinical & School-Based Disorders; Language, Literacy, & Cultural/Linguistic Diversity; Leadership & Professional Development; and Medical-Based Disorders. Lunch Break — Based on your feedback, we are implementing a one-hour lunch break each day of the convention.

Audiologists — In an effort to increase the number of Audiologists in attendance this year, we have added an Audiology mixer to the schedule before our Gala. This event will maximize engagement with our current Audiologists and potential Audiology students.

As you can see, the 2020 NBASLH Convention promises to be our best one yet! Focusing on our theme will allow us to engage in a meaningful dialogue about issues important to our profession while also forging a path for the future. As we continue to plan for your arrival, we welcome you to reach out to us with any questions or feedback that will enhance your experience.

Make sure you register today to take part in this impactful event!

See you soon,
